Thanks for the Inspo, Julie!

May 20, 2020 (two months into the global pandemic of Covid-19)

During almost two months of quarantining, I’ve had the time to reflect on what I want the future to hold. Of course it is still, and always will be, very uncertain, but I’ve decided it at least needs to include more writing and more cooking. I aspire to be an author someday, and I love cooking. While I wait for some big dreams to unfold, I figured it would be a good idea to spend my time improving both my writing and cooking skills.

That leads us to this blog. First, you should know I have always been a big fan of the show ‘MasterChef Junior.’ Prior to the world falling apart, I had already seen the entire series three times; don’t judge! Those kids are just so adorable and talented! With not a whole lot to do at home these days, I put it on for the fourth time. Before #Quarantine2020, it was simply a cute show to re-watch when I didn’t know what else to put on. But now that I had all the time in the world to cook and bake and try new recipes, I wasn’t just watching a show; I was learning. This inevitably led to me purchasing the ‘MasterChef Junior Cookbook.’

Secondly, a few weeks into the quarantine, I stumbled upon a Netflix ‘recommended for you’ movie that caught my eye–‘Julie and Julia’. I put it on because Meryl Streep + Amy Adams, duh…no brainer. I assumed it would be good. I assumed wrong. It was amazing! Talk about inspiring. I saw so much of myself in Julie Powell, which means I saw myself in Julia Child. I felt like I wasn’t alone and that there were other women just like me. I always figured there were, but I felt portrayed, seen, and understood over those wonderful two-ish hours.

You might have already guessed by now, but I’m totally pulling a Julie Powell, and working my way through the MCJ cookbook on this blog. Thanks for the inspo, Julie!

I have no expectations for this other than to: a) accomplish something and keep myself writing and b) get better at cooking. But if I were to be honest, I admit I hope to connect with others in this process; people who like to express themselves via writing or via cooking, too. Or maybe people who just love to eat (people like me need people like you.) Or maybe people who are stuck in a job they’re unhappy at and their inner child is desperately yearning to do something they actually love. Whoever needs to see this, or just enjoys it. This isn’t just for me; it’s for you too.

Cheers to always trying to be a “tid!”

All my love,
Dani, a big tid
