with Lemon Frosting and Basil Dust

First, let’s take a moment to celebrate that I AM 2/3 OF THE WAY THROUGH THE MASTERCHEF JUNIOR COOKBOOK! Can I get a woot woot?
Okay, now onto the cupcakes. I know lemon is a very popular ingredient for desserts, but basil? I mean, I’m new to baking but I’m pretty sure that’s an uncommon flavor combo when it comes to sweets. Personally, when I hear lemon-basil, I think of a chicken seasoning. And yet, it was a great pairing! It was sweet, tart, and savory.
The most fascinating part was the “basil dust.” You just put sugar and basil in the food processor and voila, basil dust! It was a fun addition of texture and taste to these unique cupcakes.
The best part of it all was photographing them. Shooting cupcakes is officially my new favorite. They’re just so photogenic! I guess I’ll just have to make more so I can take more pictures of them. The life of a food photographer can be tough sometimes, but someone’s gotta do it.
