The Perfect Spring Dessert: Lemon Madeleines

Golden brown madeleines atop fresh spring blueberries and blackberries

What Makes These the Perfect Spring Dessert?

In my opinion, the recipe for the perfect spring dessert includes light/bright flavors and fresh, in-season fruit. This beautifully crafted dessert has that and more. The lemon flavor in the madeleines is subtle but effective. The acidity keeps them from being too dense and leaves you with that refreshing feeling like after you drink a glass of ice cold lemonade on a hot day.

The berry compote is made up of fresh blueberries and blackberries. It’s so simple to make and it is such a delicious component to the dessert. Lastly, the sweet compote is contrasted by the savory basil-goat cheese mousse, but they both compliment the madeleines perfectly.

Logan, the winner of Season 2 of MasterChef Junior, chose this recipe for his finale dessert. I also got to make his finale entrée: Salt-Baked Branzino. Since I’ve tried his incredible finale entrée and these delicious little cakes, I can clearly see why he won the show. I was fortunate enough to connect with Logan via Instagram and had the pleasure of interviewing him live about his time on MasterChef Junior. Now that this cookbook cook-through has finally come to an end, I plan to reach out to more MCJ contestants and try their personal favorite recipes so I can keep learning from incredible tids 🙂 If you wanna see more of that, follow me on Instagram, which is where I’ll be posting that content.

Final Thoughts:

I cannot believe this is my final MasterChef Junior recipe. I set out almost one year ago to conquer this cookbook with 99 MasterChef worthy recipes. It taught me more than I could have ever imagined and it led me to an incredible online food community. I am incredibly grateful for everything I have now because I said yes to this intimidating venture last May.

So, what’s next? I will be pursuing a full time job with food blogging/photography. I have so much to learn in order to do so, but I am taking the confidence I’ve gained from completing this cook-through and I’m going to put in the hard work to make this a career. The best part is I am constantly discovering new, creative ways to use the skills I’ve gained over the last year, so really the possibilities are endless.

I plan to focus on developing fun recipes with nostalgic, throwback components, like my Grown up Chocolate Milk and my Adult PB&J Waffles with Boozy Toppings. Basically, I wanna keep cooking like a tid, but I’m going to put a few adult twists on them 🙂 So if you haven’t already, be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss the next chapter of this food blogging journey.
